Mid-week, between sessions. You're planning your next bench day and want to know what number you're chasing. The agent has the full ledger — it just needs you to ask the right question.

What the agent needs to hear

Behind your sentence, the agent works backwards to three pieces: which exercise, what kind of PR you mean, and what time window you care about. The exercise is the only piece you have to name — every question starts with a lift. The other two have sensible defaults: « PR » means estimated one-rep max unless you say otherwise, and the default window is all-time.

The agent reads your set history for that exercise, computes the PR by the type you asked for (or the default), and shows you a card with the number, the date it was last hit or estimated, and the set or sets it derived from. No abstraction — the math is visible.

What you can ask for

There are three flavors of PR the system tracks, and they answer different questions:

  • Estimated 1RM — what the heaviest single rep is calculated to be from your best working set, using a standard formula. Useful when you want a programming anchor. Default if you say « 1RM » or « PR » without other qualifiers.
  • Heaviest set logged — the actual heaviest weight you’ve ever hit, at any rep count. Useful when you want a real number, not an estimate. Ask for « heaviest set » or « max weight on bench ».
  • Rep PR at a given weight — the most reps you’ve done at a specific load. Useful for AMRAP comparison or rep-range progression. Ask for « rep PR at 80 kg » or « best AMRAP at 70 ».

For time, all-time is the default. « Recent PR » or « this mesocycle’s PR » narrows the window — the agent reads from your last 90 days or from the start of the current mesocycle, respectively.

How fresh the number is

Every PR the agent returns carries a date. A PR set six months ago and never matched is still your PR — but the agent will say so. « Estimated 1RM 100 kg, derived from a working set six months ago » reads differently than « 100 kg, derived from last Tuesday ». You read the same number, but the freshness colors what you do with it.

A stale PR isn’t a wrong PR; it’s just one that hasn’t been tested recently. If you want a fresher anchor, the next session is where to make it.

When the agent gets it wrong

The card the agent shows is your check. If the PR doesn’t match what you remember — you hit 105 last month but the card shows 100 — say so: « I think I hit 105 on bench in April, can you find it? ». The agent re-searches; if the set was logged at the wrong weight or under the wrong exercise, that gap will surface.

If the agent gave you a 1RM when you wanted the heaviest set, call the type: « not the estimate — the heaviest actual set ». And if it returned the wrong exercise (« incline bench, not flat »), name it cleanly. The card refreshes on the right query.

What makes the answer worth trusting

Three things decide whether the PR you’re shown reflects your real strength: the exercise matches exactly what you’re chasing (flat bench is not incline bench), the PR type answers the question you actually asked (estimate vs heaviest actual vs rep PR), and the date is honest (a six-month-old PR is six months old, not « current »). The system uses your PR ledger for progression targets, weekly review, and intensity calibration; reading the wrong type or the wrong exercise quietly anchors your next session to the wrong number. Ask for what you mean, read the date, and chase from there.
